Does Mypaint version 1.1 come with the move layer feature? Like in gimp where you can move a layer anywhere? Because if it does, I'll "throw" windows in the garbage and install linux just to use Mypaint 1.1

xD 1.1 for Windows may never happen ; A bug in GTK block the next Windows release unfortunately. Probably for next series, when porting to GTK3 will be done.
Someone posted on the comment a portage of my kit for 1.0 , here : [link]

Webpage doesn't exist ;_; And 1.1 (all versions) can't be OK for my Win7 or my tablet don't works with them.
Download brushes again, please!

Dammit, does that mean I'll actually have to install a linux distribution? I've been avoiding this for a long time =P
Gonna test with the port then. Thanks to whoever made this.

Oh *Deevad, Thank you! I've used your brush sets ever since I started drawing with my paint. They always seem really professional and more life like than the other brush sets I've used. I going to try this and see what I can draw with them. Keep up the awesome work *Deevad. ^^

Ooh, will test this soon, thanks for making these available!

My favorite brush is still the flat-tipped brush from your v4 Brush kit, I think I use that most even though it never appeared in later kits.

oh yes, this one :) a fun one, I think I still have it on my folder 'testing' ; the new knife here behave totally differently ; and for the first time I removed the rotation fixed to direction .
to test , just update Git , the brush are still on a beta folder for testing. I keep the V4 on the wiki anyway in case of wanting an older brush. This made me want to retest the V4 kit.

Just tried the new v6 set, very nice so far! The pen-like brush you recommend does not suit my hand quite as well as it seems to do for you (I might be pressing harder by default) but there are some very good presets here, some which nicely expand on the functionality of the v4 ones (which I still keep loaded in MyPaint). It's quite a complete natural-painting-like set you have there, the main missing tool (a clean, untextured smudger) is supplied from one of the other default sets, so building a good favorite set is no problem at all. Kudos!

Nice improvement! This brush-set is much more out of the box than the previous one: I don't have to modify slightly the pressure and the features of every brush to feel comfortable anymore. Wet brushes have a nice and creamy mixing now and watercolors feel very natural used with overlay and burn layers. (I've to find a good method to add an extra fringe edge in post production like Sai yet. :D ) The 4H pencil is too subtle for me and needs a very heavy pen pressure to be visible.

Thank you very much for your hard work and generosity, Deevad! ;)

Can I ask you an unrelated question?
Watching this video I see that is suggested to never move the wrist and use the elbow to draw lines:
[link]
Do you do the same? Because I've a graphic tablet, but my table is not so big to allow me to fix the elbow on it and draw, so I use the wrist a lot.

Yes I draw more from the whole arms, than from gesture of the wrist in general.
You can read in my article the position I prefer with a tablet : [link]

I forgot to say to tell you that It's a long time I follow your blog, so I remember that blog post about the different positions you showed and thank you for that.

Now that I have this new position I feel so much better, it's easier to make curves and straight lines with the free hand. My problem with this new posture was to turn the tablet each time to draw on a different angle. I didn't know that with Mypaint in the view menu there is an option to rotate the canvas. Before that I used the wacom's wheel for zooming, but now is set to rotate the canvas. So with my arm and tablet I keep the same position and I simply rotate to place the line where I want. I don't know if the canvas rotation is possible in Gimp...not with the 2.6 as far as I remember. I have yet to try on a recent version of Krita.

Thanks for following my blog :) and good for the position feedback. I'll try to update the page as my point of view is a little bit different than on the article for the Cintiqs , but keep same for tablets.

I tried on paper and yes I feel it easier to make lines.
So I removed scanner, external dvd player and other stuff to have space on my table. I really had not idea that pro artists used the arm and the elbow.
But not now on the graphic tablet I feel a little bit lost. I'm not used to rotate the tablet and I feel very slow. Especially because before I used to focus on the display, but now that I have to move the tablet I focus on its surface.

Yes, here is how to get the PPA testing version of Mypaint : [link]
To summarise :

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:achadwick/mypaint-testing
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install mypaint

Then with this version, you can install my brushkit like this :

1.Download the *.zip package
2.Open Mypaint, and go in the main menu to Brush > Import Brush Package
3. Done, a new brush group named 'deevad-v6' will be created.

Just finished building mypaint from master branch to try out these. Wow, the ink brush is so smooth, excellent for sketching! And I can see the subtle improvements in watercolor behavior. (And as a bonus, I got to try out the new symmetrical painting feature and more painting modes, as I went from default 0.9.something to current revision.)

Thank you so much for sharing! And for giving me a reason to compile a new version.

Hey thanks for the feedback , the newer version's features are really good.
A massive bug-fix will probably come soon on the master branch, but it's already pretty stable in my opinion.

Oui, la première fois avec les icones repeintes c'était la V4, et c'était pour Mypaint 0.9 ; la V5 avait des modifications mineures pour les nouveaux reglages de 1.0 ...etc...
Bon painting !
